根据市场研究公司 IWSR 的数据，全球酒精消费进入到永久性下降期。2016 年全球酒精消费量达到峰值的 254 亿升，之后下降了约 13%。人均酒精消费量从 2013 年的每名成年人每年 5 升纯酒精降至 2023 年的 3.9 升。葡萄酒产量在 1979 年达到 3750 万吨的峰值，目前下降 27%。啤酒产量在 2016 年达到峰值的 1.9 亿吨，此后下降了 2.6%。专家将这一趋势归因于代际习惯变化，年轻一代的消费者更偏向事件驱动的饮酒，而不是习惯性饮酒。非酒精替代品普及、大麻供应的增加，以及新冠疫情加速提升的健康意识，进一步推动了适度饮酒趋势。
